- KINDERGARTEN BEING RUN OVER BY A BULLDOZER
|
- MOULD KINDERGARTEN WILL BE DEMOLISHED |
|
- The Kindergarten of Myllypuro will be run over by a bulldozer and will disappear into the history of Helsinki's social office and daycare. The real estate board authorized the real estate office to start the demolition job of the kindergarten that is located in Kiviparintie. It's estimated that the demolition job will cost around 67 000 euros. The Helsinki's social office abandoned the kindergarten, when they reduced funds for the eastern Helsinki daycare. The decision was made in February in the social and health department. The Kindergarten of Myllypuro wasn't at first on the list of those places that will be closed, but ended up to the list when the social and health department gave up under the pressure from parents and agreed to save the kindergarten of Myllytupa. - The kindergarten of Myllypuro had 68 daycare places and the building that was build in 1966 was one of the oldest in the area. Before the decision to close it, there was even plans to renovate the place with few million euros, but now it will disappear from the city image. According to the new city plan, the area will have some new residential buildings and at the same time it's planned that the central area of Myllypuro will be made a bit more lively and clearer to perceive. There's also plans, that the residential house that will be build to the area, will have some space for a future kindergarten. |
- The real estate office has gained a permission to start the demolition job of kindergarten of Vartiokylä. The kindergarten was build in the sixties and now it's planned that the area will have some new residential buildings. The kindergarten is located in Kiviparintie and the museum authorities and the city development officials have both agreed to the demolition. The demolition permission is granted by the building committee. |
NOTE: Both of these articles appeared in August and I went and photographed in September. I thought that the building would be gone in September, but I actually visited the area before Christmas and the demolition job was just then starting. So it took awhile before they actually got anything done. Another thing is the name confusion. Depending on which newspaper you read, you got a different name for the kindergarten. Either it was the kindergarten of Myllypuro (Where it's actually located) or it was the kindergarten of Vartiokylä (Which is a nearby residential area). Go figure...
