Foundry In Tallinn, Picture 1- In a preparation for our summer trip to Poland, me and my fiancé traveled one Saturday to Tallinn, to buy our bus tickets for the journey. However, that was not everything we had in mind, while embarking on the ship. During the last summer trip, I had noticed one big factory from the bus window while we were heading towards Haapsalu. We were determined to come back and see the place a bit more closely...

- It took a year to get ourselves going again, but during that year I tried to acquire some information about the factory and generally about exploration in Tallinn, which due to the language barrier, poverty and a drug problem, could result an ugly end to our exploration. However despite several attempts, I couldn't reach anybody, or at least no one didn't answer to my repeated questions concerning the conditions in Tallinn and what should we expect if exploring an abandoned factory, in the middle of Tallinn. With this in mind, our only guideline for the exploration, was common sense...

- I must admit, that this was the scariest place ever. Exploring in a country, which language you don't speak, the drug problem that's present in Tallinn, the constant talk about organized crime in the news and the fact, that Finnish people don't give a too good impression of themselves to the Estonians, didn't make me feel too comfortable. In many sense, this place also broke some permanent "rules" that me and my fiancé have, when we are exploring together. Normally, she's running around the place and has seen everything in a time, when I've just finished taking one photograph. One moment she's standing besides me and the next thing I know, she's climbing near the ceiling and after a while, her head is sticking out from some hatch. However, here I for the very first time heard the magical words: "Perhaps it's not safe to go there" I thought that I would never hear those words...

- But she was correct. From the plate outside the main factory complex, I gather that this factory was build in the twenties. Most likely they used too much sand while building this place, because this also broke one common rule that is widely expressed in other UE sites: "Avoid wooden structures, favor concrete" This factory complex however is an exception to that rule, because I've never seen concrete giving up so easily. Big pieces had come down from the top floor, smashing everything in it's way and finally ending up to the first floor and creating a hole down to somewhere. The only explanation is, that this place was build quite cheaply and that is starting to show, after some eighty years. I really don't have an idea, what this place once was. The foundry was my first thought, after seeing those "holes", shown on the left side photo, side by side in one big hall. I'm open also to other suggestions, but before someone shows some hard evidence about the history of this place, I'm going to keep the title of this gallery, as it is.

 - The area contains about three to four different buildings and this is the first one we entered. You cannot talk about some small details being present here. Just pitch black halls after another, with only dust on the floor and the walls. The "thing" that's shown in the picture, was the only bigger item we found. It looks a bit like some sort of a generator, but I'm not sure about that.

- Believe it or not, there's a working company in that building and the whole area even has few more.
