Cowshed Ruins In Selki, Picture 1- This is what Finnish countryside and farming today is...ruins and abandoned buildings. I guess that if I would start heading north from Helsinki, going through the eastern part of Finland and then heading to the north-west part of the country, there wouldn't be a web site, that could hold all the pictures from abandoned places that one could find.

- The structural change in Finnish society has been a very dramatic and swift in the past twenty to thirty years. It hasn't been that long, since this country was a farming society. Now, now we have fancy cell phones, internet and palm computers, no one wants to be farmer anymore, it's not a very "sexy" occupation anymore. It's more "sexy" to walk in Mannerheimintie with your bluetooth attached to your head, reading your emails from your cell phone and thinking about your portfolio.

- Selki isn't located very far from Helsinki, but the change from the city is total. Old Finland is present here very strongly. I've always said, that any person coming from abroad, should rent a car and go driving around the surrounding area of Helsinki. You can always come back to your five star hotel after that. It's just that the landscape is absolutely amazing. A lot of old and beautiful buildings around. Buildings which from the cities have been demolished a years ago.

- I guess the horseshoe which still hangs on the wall, didn't bring too much luck to the community...

- The old grain silo is still full of grains, full of mould and wet making it impossible to enter the grain silo. The roof of the cowshed is long gone, only the walls standing, staring people passing by.

- The vegetation is also taking over the place. It's interesting to note, that the things we today build, don't last a thousands of years, they crumble within a few years after they are abandoned.
