Danzig

- Danzig, Seen From The Bishop Mountain.

- Danzig was a part of Germany from the year 1871 onwards. However, after the First World War, the new nation, Poland gained most of the Posen and West Prussian provinces and Danzig located at the shore of the Baltic Sea, was declared as a Free City. The town was a political unit of it's own and stayed that way until September 1939, when Germany attacked Poland. During the morning hours of 1st of September 1939, the German battleship Schleswig-Holstein opened fire against the Westerplatte, that was held by a Polish garrison. Later that day, Danzig was formally annexed into Germany.

- After the Second World War, Danzig lost it's free city status and it was given to Poland. Today the town is known with a name Gdansk.
