- Part of the saving money campaign of the southern Finland nursing area, Hospital of Röykkä is one of those hospitals that have been closed in the past few years. The building itself is a very beautiful. It was built in 1902 and it's original purpose was to be a tuberculosis sanatorium. However the latest use, before the hospital was closed, was a B-mental institution. Meaning that the long term patients were located here. People that had a little hope of getting better anymore. - Perhaps this is the reason why I felt, that the whole place is shadowed by a black cloud. Depressing and gloomy, windows and walls echoing thousand stories about suffering and hopelessness. I didn't spend too much time here, but I was really exhausted after photographing this place. If you have read anything about how mental patients were treated even twenty years ago, you know what I mean about black cloud hanging over this place. - This building is also controversial, as politicians are trying to figure out, what to do with this valuable building. It seems that soon, this place will be the some sort of a spa. I actually managed to get into the building, but I didn't waste film to the interior, as I was so disappointed about the fact, that they have already built conference halls and covered the walls and ceiling with a lovely wooden paneling. - Well, I wont be ever going to this spa, I probably wouldn't relax too much in a such a happy enviroment...
