- In a cities, these are always located funnily enough, in the middle of newer buildings, even in between some multi-national companies. This building is not an exception from the rule, as the nearby buildings have people living in them and there's a bank around the corner. It creates a strange contrast between the time that was and the present time of economical growth. - Still I would guess, that within ten to twenty years from now, these type of buildings are gone for good and the now a bit decayed cities of Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius, will resemble more like Helsinki, with most of it's old buildings tore down. - Perhaps after some twenty years from now, some new Urban Explorer or a person interested about photographing, curses because he or she wasn't around when there were a lot of opportunities around. Just like I curse, because I wasn't around in the sixties and seventies, when Helsinki demolished nearly all of it's old and beautiful industrial and residential buildings and constructed ugly and hideous concrete buildings to replace them. It's progress they say... - While I was photographing this building an old lady came to talk to us. He seemed very interested about photographing and the building. I guess it's not an everyday event, to see tourists photographing ruined houses, when there would be a lot "prettier" places in Vilnius. Unfortunately like always, English is not an option and unfortunately Lithuanian doesn't resemble even vaguely any language that I know. So the conversation really didn't go anywhere and the lady finally left. - It would have been really nice to talk with her, as most likely, she could have told something about the building, but as it is now, this is just a house in the Placioji street and nothing else...

- Even when plaster is coming off from the building, ceiling collapsed and most likely the whole building will come down some day, the address signs are kept in perfect order. What's interesting is those holders for two flags... - Perhaps I accidentaly managed to photograph a building that has some special meaning from the long history of Lithuania? |
