- THE DEMOLITION OF ORNO'S LAMP FACTORY HAS STARTED

- THE CONSTRUCTION OF THREE NEW APARTMENT BUILDINGS WILL START DURING THE NEXT YEAR

- The old Orno's lamp factory is being demolished in Kerava, to give space to new buildings. The demolition work has started by removing asbestos and the wooden structures. Kerava has granted the permission to demolish this old factory. Although environment office proposed few weeks ago, that the possibility of saving the building should be investigated. According to the office, it would have been a good noise barrier for the new apartment buildings that will be built here.

- The person who planned the area says that the environment office don't have any basis to suggest of saving the old building, because they didn't complain to the city of Kerava when they had a chance. Now it's too late as the city has granted the permission for demolition. The environment office is concerned that apartment buildings will be built so close to the railway tracks. While building the apartment buildings, they have to think about this and how the noise can be kept from entering into the apartments. They can't build windows that will open towards the railway or balconies facing the railway tracks. According to the person who have made the plans for this area, that kind of construction is difficult, because they would have to build apartments that would stretch across the building. This however is not possible, as the new apartments will be quite small and intended for young people.

- The area has been planned so, that it's possible to build 7 500 square meter floors and three new apartment buildings. This plan is available for everyone to see until 28th day of October in the city hall. After that the plan will go through different board meetings and the construction work can start at it's earliest during the next year. One of the new houses will have eight floors and the other one about four to five floors. Additionally there will be also a parking building, that will have two floors and will also act as a noise barrier. Also the car shelter will act as a noise barrier, so that the noise level wont be too high in the yard. Fences will be also built between the buildings, that should reduce the noise from the railway tracks even more. According to the architect, these kind of solutions should keep the noise level under the permitted levels.

NOTES: Seriously, the noise in those new buildings will be awful. You can see with your own eyes, that how close the railway track is. That's the main railway line in Finland. You think that any barrier is going to keep the noise from entering into your apartment, when there's trains going constantly? Perhaps they can block the noise from getting into the yard, but apartments...
