- However during the day, I kept on looking at the demolition job, opposite side of the street, but couldn't get a clear picture what was going on as the sound barrier along the freeway was blocking my view. When leaving home I could get a clearer picture of the place and I just couldn't believe my eyes. One of the new looking houses was missing pieces from the roof and the house next to it, had some graffiti's painted to the wall. I went to investigate the place a bit closer and I became even more puzzled by the place. - Side by side stood expensive and brand new looking houses. Even when the condition of the houses wasn't the best that there is, you could almost smell money here. After exploring the first four or five houses I was already exhausted and I didn't know where the area will end. Always after going through one house, the next would be in front of me. I decided to come back during the next day, but all through the evening my head was occupied by the question, why are these houses abandoned and obviously demolished quite soon? It just doesn't make any sense... - The next day saw me exploring six or seven another houses and really, the area was huge. I got confused in my calculations, but the area holds around twelve roomy and expensive houses. I normally don't investigate places beyond the time I actually spend there, but the shock effect of this place just demanded me to dig up the information that what's wrong with this place. Is it the ground, like in Alakiventie? Or perhaps they will be expanding the nearby freeway? - No, no, wrong guesses. This is a real shrine to our disposable culture. I should just call this the Village of Waste. Nothing wrong with the 500 000 euro houses, nothing at all. These just have been abandoned for few years and as there is no buyers for these, they will be demolished. With a 10 000 people without homes in this country, perhaps the Village of Idiotic would be a better name for this place. My head just refuses to understand the purpose of tearing these houses down, it cannot understand it now and not tomorrow. I'm just shocked to be honest... - I hear you asking that why didn't those hippy young people reclaim these houses, after all they are doing it almost constantly and for the purpose of getting apartments for students and other premises for the youth. Yeah, I asked about that too, until I heard that they are aware that Espoo contains a large amount of abandoned houses, but nobody isn't interested of reclaiming those, as they are located so "far away"... - You ought to be ashamed of yourselves...

- View from the backside of the first house. In each of the houses, the yard was filled with everyday items. Food, shampoo bottles, toilet paper, newspapers, cutlery's and some bigger items like sofas and refrigerators. It almost seemed in some part of the area, like someone had been collecting everything from the houses, to transfer them somewhere, but the job was never finished. |
