" During the years 1892 to 1901, this area held the Finnish Troops of the 22nd Mikkeli reserve company and during the years 1918 to 1956, the non-commissioned officer schools of the troops located in Mikkeli, were situated here " "From antiquity has the forefathers bravely carried their swords" - This memorial statue was erected 13th of July 1958 by the AuK/SavPr - - I don't think that I would have ever found this or even known about this place, before it would have been a pile of rubble, if I hadn't received an email, telling about an interesting abandoned military hospital in Mikkeli. What first was discussed as a military hospital, appeared to be in later research, an NCO school, abandoned one that being. - However, I have no doubt that during the Winter War and perhaps during the Continuation War also, this area was also used as a military hospital, as when looking around the area, it would have suited well enough for that purpose also. Also Mikkeli during the wars, was a headquarter city and many different military installations were located there. Gathering information about this place is a really hard job. Internet holds only few references about this place and those are quite vague pieces of information. Additionally, there's only one book written about this area and it seems, that it cannot be found anywhere else, than from a local library...if even from there. The best information came from the forgotten memorial stone, that has been beaten and battered to the point, that it even seems that someone has tried to remove it from the memorial stone, luckily without a success. - My gratitude goes to squirrel who whispered about this place to my ears. It's certainly a place, which kind of there isn't that many around in this country and most likely, not in other countries either. - Thanks A. Orava...

- Walking into the area, feels like walking into a small village or town. It's a real ghost town, with several dirt roads going around the place and even lamps standing beside the abandoned roads. |

- To my astonishment, this area doesn't seem to be protected in anyway. Vandals and nature can do their job quite freely, with nature this time taking the first place of getting rid of the buildings. At least one of the houses has been burned down to the point, that it cannot be repaired anymore and most likely some other buildings have disappeared from the area, a long time ago. |
