- I have always been interested about
history. As a little boy, I used to look at the pictures in different books,
fascinated by the black and white pictures, showing time and events, unknown to
me and even to my parents. I listened stories from the Winter War and
Continuation War, by my great grandfather. He had not even told these stories to
his own daughter. Then I learned to read and started to read these same books,
never quite understanding what I read.
- As I got older, I started to read even more intensively, trying to understand and remember what I read. At present-day, I'm still learning and studying more of history. My main interest has always been the First World War and the Second World War. The interest probably comes from the fact, that I'm astonished, how tens of millions people could take the arms and start killing each others. The enormous human suffering is also baffling. Also the question, that what kept people to continue the fighting, even when there was no hope in sight, has preoccupied my mind many years.
- This is a hobby, that makes many people to think that I'm some sort of a gun maniac or a war crazy person. However that is not true. It couldn't be further from the truth. First of all, I never completed the national service and secondly, I'm strongly against any war nowadays. Someone might say that I'm a pacifist. I've learned something from the history books and I think, that many of the world leaders should read more of the same books that I have. Maybe they would find the same thing in those books, that I've found. So my interest towards this subject, lies mainly on those subjects that are stated above. Through books and pictures, I try to learn and understand.
- I also want to state, that any symbol of the Third Reich or a symbol of some other country or ideology, are not here for the political reasons. They are not an attitude towards some ideology. They are here, for the purpose of presentation.
- At the moment, the timeline of Winter War and Continuation War is ready for viewing. Pictures from my collection, Germany 1930 to 1945, have been added here also and more will be coming as I have time to add them.
- I did both of the timelines in January 2001. Unfortunately I have lost the original list of sources. However I have tried to collect the sources list again. The list isn't an comprehensive one, but at least the most used books are listed there.
