- After sitting down in my table I almost chocked in the French fries, because opposite side of the street was standing this huge and clearly abandoned building. If the food isn't any good in the local McDonalds, at least the view is great! While eating, I kept on observing the building that seemed quite huge and clearly abandoned with graffiti's inside of the building and fence that had seen a better days. Finishing my meal I headed towards the building. The immediate problem was quite clear, even when the fence had seen better days, I still would have to climb over it, there just wasn't holes big enough for me to crawl through. The climbing part wasn't the problem here, but the fact how to do it without too many people noticing me right away, because Herttoniemi area is a quite busy place. At this point I decided to just scout around the building to find a better place to get into the yard. However none was to be found and I returned home to decide how this place should be approached in a best way. - During the next Sunday morning, I was awake very early and decided to head to Herttoniemi immediately. Even when it was around 9am on a Sunday morning, there were a lot of people around in the McDonalds and in the nearby gas station, so time to look casual. I waited for a few minutes so that there wasn't too many people facing towards me and up we go like a little monkey. After descending again to the ground level I got my camera out of the bag, to keep my press look. There were few cars driving by me when I was on the other side of the fence, but they didn't pay too much attention to me, so time to start explore. - The place is clearly abandoned, with some flee market working here for sometime, since the machine workshop have ceased to exist here. However, most of the doors and windows were tightly closed and visiting most part of the interiors proved to be impossible. However there was a small hole leading to one section of the building, so taking all of this risk in the middle of the most busiest Helsinki proved to be worthwhile.

- "Welcome" - This was the second place where a swarm of pigeons welcomed me to their home. The place was also full of pigeon droppings and a respirator here was necessary. If I ever want to start examine pigeons, I now certainly know the places where to find them... |
