 - THE SHABBY GRANARY IS TERRIFYING PEOPLE LIVING CLOSE BY

- THE OWNER HAS PROMISED MONTHS AGO TO DEMOLISH THE BUILDING

- The shabby granary in Haarajoki has bothered the citizens for a long time now, as the abandoned granary has gotten into a dangerous condition. The work in the granary ceased some two years ago and after that the building has been empty. The building is an inviting target especially for young boys to climb in its structures. During the school hours children are forbidden to go to the area, but after the school children are going into the building, tells the chairman from the local resident union. Some have even used the place to drink alcohol and to sleep there. There's been even sightings of a giant rats running around the place and it's no wonder, as the place is full of food for them. The chairman has contacted many times the owner of the place and the owner has always promised to demolish the building, but nothing hasn't happened so far. We also suggested that place would be fenced and that there would be a sign, telling that the building is in danger of collapsing.

- The owner who has owned the building for six years, tells that it is in their intentions to demolish the building very soon, possibly even during the next week. The job is quite big, so it will take at least two to three months. The owner cannot say, how much it will cost to demolish the building and it's also open question, if he will demolish the granary or will it be done by some other company. There's negotiations going on currently about the area. The area will be sold quite soon, the owner tells.

- The resident union and the city of Järvenpää are highly doubtful that the demolition will actually start during the next week, as the owner has said such a things so many times before. The demolition jobs usually drag on, as it's expensive to get rid of the demolished material. Also a plan for the demolition has to be made and that plan needs to point out a manager for the demolition, where the demolished material will be located and how the material will be sorted out. According to the city of Järvenpää, the issue around the abandoned granary goes to a board meeting next week and the demolition will be accelerated with a fine to the owner. The health officer needs also the check the place, due to the rats. There's a store next to the granary and this plot of land can be used to build either a office building, residential building or a commercial building. However the land needs to be zoned as there's some issues with different areas, due to a different owners.

NOTE: I don't think that the place was a shabby...quite lovely actually during a hot summer day. Although I wouldn't sleep there, due to the fact, that the place is full of grain, which is full of fungus.
