Badly Burned House In Vuosaari, Picture 1- While driving to home one hot day, in late August, there was a dense gray smoke covering the whole area. The smell was horrible. Clearly there was a fire somewhere, but I couldn't find the building that was on fire. After a few days, I noticed a newspaper article telling, how a house or a villa, that was empty, had catch a fire and was destroyed beyond repair. So I got my camera and headed for the area, to see if there was anything worth of photographing.

- While I arrived near to this house, I noticed a band going around the yard, that said: POLICE, KEEP OUT! So there was some criminal investigation going on, I assume. I certainly didn't want to mess around a crime scene so I left and took no pictures. After few weeks I again stumbled to the area, to see if the police had already finished their job. Yes they were and the band was gone, but all of the doors were locked and most of the windows were boarded completely. The main entrance was open as were few of the windows, but the fire had destroyed those areas almost completely and first of all I didn't want to take unnecessary risks and secondly, it was still a day time and the nearby sports ground was full of people. So I took few outside pictures and thought that I will come back during a night, to see if I can find a way in, when there's not that many people around. While I was leaving I stumbled on to two kids, who were also looking at the building, but of course they couldn't find a way in either...

- Or could they? When I got back here after it was dark, I immediately noticed that someone had twisted one of the locked doors open. This made the whole exploration quite simple, when it comes to entering the building.

- This is the first place that I've explored, that has extensive damage from a fire. The stench inside was horrible, even words can describe it. Melted and burned plastic, paint that's trickled the walls from the heat, burned wood, glass, metal and so on. My tendency to have migraine attacks certainly didn't like this place at all. The respirator was useless to keep the fumes out of my nose and pretty soon there was a horrible pounding going on in my head. Any bigger fire scene would have resulted only a small part of the building being explored. This building, with around five to six rooms, I was able to explore barely. There's also a second floor, but the stairs leading to the second floor, were not safe at all to use.

- These are the last pictures from the place, as it was demolished completely before November 2003.

- A little different bathroom picture, with the plastic parts melted and burned. All of the plastic parts in the house, like light switches and different cables had melted to some extent. You know, how plastic smells when it burns...
