- The bronze age in Finland and in Scandinavia started around the year 1700BC and ending in 500BC, keeping inside six different periods. These graves, mounds, are the memory from the people, who used to live here, some 3000 years ago...before TV, radio or before internet...living perhaps a much happier life than we do? - This mound is by no means the only one in Finland, but these are very rare in Southern Finland, with this only one remaining in such a good condition near Helsinki. There are few others nearby, but those have collapsed or destroyed during the test of time. - Located on a tall hill, the view is absolutely amazing from the top. While trying to find the place, I stumbled to one man and asked directions. Along with the instructions, he also told, that the bird watchers like the place very much, as this is one of those rare places around Helsinki, where you can see the white tailed eagle...although I'm now sure, that I remembered the bird wrongly, but still it's not hard to believe that some rare birdies like the place, as people are not here disturbing them. - Part of the Finnish ancient monuments, these mounds together with the ancient castles, castle hill's and living areas, draw a picture of the people, who used to live here, long before us and I bet this mound will stand on this hill, looking Helsinki long after we are gone...

- The contrast between the 3000 year old grave and a modern civilization. That's part of the god damn Vuosaari harbor project. I've mocked enough of the project, but let's state just what the picture shows: A part of the working site, to build a railway and a freeway to the harbor...under that working site lies the old village from the 14th century. The village lasted nearly 700 years, until we came along... |
