- One of the visible differences is those metal rings from which one is shown in the picture, on the left side. These have been attached to the parapet of the trench line. The distance between the rings is about a meter or so and these can be found only from the positions in Espoo. Not a single one metal ring has been found from the positions in Helsinki and Vantaa. Now comes the interesting part, no one knows the purpose of these. The documents which the Russians left behind from Krepost Sveaborg don't bring any light to the question of these metal rings. - Any good guesses what was the purpose of these? - My own guesses would something like a rings where the phone lines perhaps went? This would be a good guess, but these metal rings are quite large and they would have not helped to keep the phone line away from the bottom of the trench very effectively. - Another guess after that is, that these metal rings would have helped to keep supplies away from the bottom of the trench, which judging from the Western Front, was always wet and muddy. My idea is, that you would have pulled your bag above the ground level and then tied it to these metal rings. Today the metal rings are located quite near the ground level, but one has to remember that the trenches have been filled with soil quite effectively during the past eighty to ninety years. - I don't know, but it sure is an interesting mystery from Krepost Sveaborg....

- The partly collapsed entrance to the cave. It might look like a spooky and a very narrow entrance, but actually for a small person there was enough room to crawl inside. |

- I guess that the local neighbourhood contains also small people, as the cave was quite badly smudged and devastated. This is what we left behind from our civilization. After a thousand year, archeologists will come and dig up this cave and this is what they will find. - Are you proud of yourself? |

- A sketch from the layout of the cave. As you can see the cave forms the shape of a U and has two entrances. The other entrance is completely buried underground and I could only see small light coming into the cave from it, but even when I tried to locate the entrance from the outside, I couldn't really find it anymore.
