Base XXVIII: Position 5 & Cave 6, Picture 1- The fortifications in Leppävaara area, holds the western flank of the Viapori fortification. If the most common scenario would have happened, the Germans would have landed in Hanko and started their march towards St. Petersburg. In that case, they would have needed to pass the Leppävaara area while trying to occupy Helsinki and continue to St. Petersburg.

- In fact, that was what happened in 1918, when the German troops arrived to help the White Finns, but the Red Finns never really defended Helsinki effectively and so no major battle was fought in Leppävaara area, only some small skirmishes, few kilometers west from this area. If the "real" thing would have really happened, the Germans would have faced a though task here, as the defensive area is a very deep, when comparing it to the other areas.

- As history is a strange thing in a sense, that it never goes like people assumes, these unused fortifications now decay slowly in a small wooden area in the fast growing area of Leppävaara. I doubt that many people even realize, what the small forest holds inside. I used to live in the area about ten to fifteen years ago and I have only some vague memories of stumbling to the Viapori fortification. I actually now tried to find the fortification in the wrong area, as my memory didn't serve me correctly, getting old...

- The area holds two underground storage rooms, however both of the doors here were rusted completely and I think that no one will not get those open ever again, even if they would like to and would have the authorization. I've seen what it looks like inside, but of course I'm curious enough to want to see these storage rooms also. Well perhaps I'll again found some place, where the doors are open.

- Interesting side note about this area in Leppävaara is, that from every street name you can read the warlike history of the place, or what would you say about a street names like: Trench Rock Lane, Trench Pit, Trench Street, Draft Street, Companion in Arms Street, Reservist Street and more...

- You don't need to be too genious to figure out, that something from Viapori can be found in the area, or do you?

- You can get a small peak, what it looks like when you climb on top of the bunker. The contrast between old and new is huge... Imperialism, Militarism, Capitalism, Globalisationism...what's the next ism? These have seen it all.
